Questions clients ask before instructing.

Plain answers to the questions that come up before the first consultation. If yours is not here, write to us and we will add it.

How much does a first consultation cost?
A thirty-minute first consultation is a fixed fee of ₹3,500. After that call we will tell you whether we think you have a case, what the likely range of outcomes is, and what it would cost to take it forward. If we do not think we are the right firm for the matter, we will say so.
How are your fees structured after that?
Most matters are billed on retainer plus hourly. Trial work is sometimes billed on a per-appearance basis. We do not act on contingency in matters where the BCI rules disallow it (which is most of them).
Do you take matters outside Bangalore?
Yes — we have appeared in fourteen cities in the last three years, and we keep panel counsel in Mumbai, Delhi, and Chennai for matters that need local appearance. We will tell you on the first call whether the cost of appearing outside Bangalore is justified by the matter.
What kinds of matter do you not take?
We do not appear for matters involving violence against women or children, save for the protection of either. We do not file patents — we refer them to specialist counsel. We do not draft DPDP-Act-compliant privacy policies on a forty-eight-hour deadline.
Do you offer pro bono representation?
Yes, on a limited basis. The firm reserves roughly five per cent of advocate-hours each year for pro bono work, taken on referral from the Karnataka State Legal Services Authority and a small number of NGOs we have worked with for years.
Can I email a confidential document for review before the first call?
Yes, to hello@bisanilegal.com. Privilege does not formally attach until the engagement letter is signed, but we treat all pre-instruction documents as confidential and we do not retain copies if we decline to act.
Do you advertise?
No. The Bar Council of India’s Rule 36 prohibits the solicitation of work by advocates. This website is informational and accessed by visitors of their own accord — please see the disclaimer in the footer.
